Turn again Whittington

Doing the London Taxi Knowledge on Good Friday

Whilst almost everyone else was happy to get a long weekend off, it is time to make hay when doing the knowledge during a Public Holiday. It means you have an extra couple of days when the roads are quiet and most people are sleeping in.

I managed to use it to combine my three passions this Easter weekend, family, golf and doing the knowledge.

I have decided to become a more thorough when out doing my runs. I think I was just rushing around eyeballing all my points and getting to the next run as fast as possible to maximise my time. This was especially true when I was starting and finishing further from home.

I have had a few questions about how many runs to do and I feel that doing any more than 4 or 5 in one go is too much. Others think that doing a couple a day is enough. It really depends on how you have prepared and also how much time you have available. Before setting out on doing my runs I have already identified all the points in my Knowledge Point Blue Book Runs through the use of my map books, the internet and Google Street view. There are great resources out there not only to help find points but to get a bit of history behind them.

Finding your way between runs should also be used to enhance your knowledge. Try finding a quick way between the end of Run 50 the Central Criminal Court to the start of Run 51 on Southwark Bridge. Read my post and the reply on the Knowledge Point Forum for a good run.

One of the more interesting points that I came across this weekend was the Whittington Stone Memorial.

This can be found outside the Whittington Stone Pub on Highgate Hill. The story goes that this is where Dick Whittington heard Bow Bells on his way out of London and was persuaded to “Turn Again”.
