Men at Work

Thankfully the sun decided to make an appearance today as I went out to do some runs. We have another weekend away, this time a night in Norfolk so I need to crack on when I can. My plan is to start doing early mornings and weekends when there is less traffic around.

Traffic was not too bad today and I was able to get into town do 6 runs and get home in 4 hours. I did check out a few points that I had identified online but did not do them all. I think I will find myself re-doing some of the points later on so I am taking a gamble on it for now.

London will be nice when it is finished..

There were a couple of things today that messed me up slightly. I do like a couple of things going wrong as I am a firm believer that I learn more from doing something wrong than if it goes smoothly.

First I managed to get to Hanbury Street and did a good run from home via Newington Green and Shoreditch High Street. Then it was over to Mile End Station which worked out fine. Then it was over to Beaumont Square and the London Independent Hospital before heading to the Rotherhithe Tunnel and over to Cannon Wharf. I had been over and checked out the points for this run last weekend so I headed across to New Cross Station. I missed a turn off Edward St onto Pagnell Street and then found that Amersham Vale was completely closed to traffic. This allowed me to check the back roads like Watson’s Street, Idonia and Payne and I found my way back to Edwards Street and headed over to Greenwich for the National Maritme Museum. This was all good until I could not turn off Romney Road into Park Row. Nevertheless I was able to eyeball it and then head to Maze Hill Station.

After this it all went very well. I headed over to West Ham Lane and that went fine. Checked out a few points including the WPC Nina McKay memorial in Arthingworth Street. I checked out all my points at West Ham Station and then headed over to Dalston. I managed to miss coming off the A11 and took the Bow Flyover instead of coming off to the roundabout, but there is a turnaround on the otherside.

The rest of the runs were fine as headed over to Regents Park from Dalston apart from turning the wrong way onto Barnsbury Road.

I noticed a lot of knowledge boys out there today, so there are plenty of people grafting away.

I know I use Google Maps on this site to help me with my revision and planning but there is NO EXCUSE for not doing a run. The maps and photos are out of date and not current. With all the constant changes in London it is essential to check everything yourself. I noticed online that there was no right turn onto Richmond Road from Queensbridge Road. This is not the case. The Knowledge Point book of runs are constantly updated and are as correct as they can be when they go to press.

All in all a good day, so I need to update my notes and call the runs over a few times and get them embedded in my brain. Then watch a bit of rugby and golf and have a beer or two.

Hopefully I do not kill too many brain cells this weekend in Norfolk. I will take my knowledge books with me just in case!
