London Taxi iPhone App
I just read about a new iPhone App called London Taxi. It only costs 59p to download and uses a combintion of Google Maps and a rate table to work out the cost of a taxi fare.
How much from Manor House to Gibson Square?
It contains a list of points around London that can be entered or it will allow you to enter the details yourself. It seems to need a postcode for your locations. You can also take advantage of the iPhone GPS and use your current location too.
The different time of day rates are also applied so you do get a very accurate estimate on the route it works out for you.
The only downfall with the app is that it is like most online mapping applications it does not calculate a Blue Book shortest run all the time. This is also a plus as it gives you a higher estimate of the potential cost.
As this is the first version of the app I am sure it will get better in later versions. Developed by a former TfL employee this is a great app for giving a good idea of the cost involved and may actually encourage people to cab share rather than all piling on to public transport.
Thanks for the review! Yes, you’re right, the online maps aren’t the best at routing – the knowledge is certainly better! We think the fares are pretty accurate though, and yes, we’ll be trying to improve in future versions.

Just tried the app for the 1st time – the gps was wrong and caused a mix up when I put in my actual address, so when the driver messaged to confirm, I tried to message back (in app – you don’t have their number)- it wouldn’t work and the app shut down every time I tried to reply. Eventually he rang and it was resolved.
A fix is needed.
