80 Runs Completed

I have just finished doing my first 80 runs of the Knowledge this week. I have been all around London, to parts I have never heard of and to roads I used as rat runs over 20 years ago.

I love doing the knowledge, discovering and learning more about London each day. I am also discovering the more I know, there is more I don’t know. I take every opportunity to go into the West End, or to pick up or drop off someone at a station and to familiarise myself with the roads.

I am keen to crack on and start on the next book of 80 runs from Knowledge Point but I have decided to spend a few days revising what I have learned and writing up my pointing maps. I have applied at the Public Carriage Office for my self-assessment which is likely to be in July due to the move to Southwark.

I intend to get a little more deeper into the points in each area I visit from now on. I have used the first 80 runs to get re-familiarised with all the areas and now I need more details on points that are not in my books. I plan on adding a few points from the daily and weekly points sheets from Knowledge Point to the usual 8 points. I will also do a run or two from the daily points sheets that fit in with the area I am working.

It was nice to have a Saturday morning off from the Knowledge to spend time with the family. My partners father was 90 recently and we took a trip on the steam train Orient Express for lunch on Saturday.

The Orient Express Steam Train

. We had a lovely day to leave from Victoria. I must admit I was checking the route the cabbie used to get us there and taking mental notes of where he went. It was nice to have someone driving through the West End while I was able to look around. I was even thinking about the drop off points at a couple of stations like Clapham Junction once the train set off but soon relaxed and enjoyed the food, drinks and the company.

I was able to have a nice relaxing drive to do some site-seeing yesterday (and to check a turn-around!). It is good knowing that I am now comfortable driving from Greenwich through Deptford and finding my way across Tower Bridge into the City and then over to the Strand. I would not of been able to do that 3 months ago!

Time to do a bit of revision and calling over to myself and some map work and then have a relaxing Bank Holiday and few drinks later.
